Program Brochure

Program Description:

It has been 5 years since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted schools, homes, work and family life. There has been an impact on all children, including dramatic increases in rates of anxiety, as well as other mental health diagnoses and severe disruption in school progress. Nationally there has been a loss of a half year of progress in reading, with no improvement in Delaware. Mental health referrals have decreased but for many there was not treatment, and there are residual effects.

For those children diagnosed with COVID-19 illness, results are mixed. While the majority appear to have had a full recovery, a smaller group of 5%, particularly those who were hospitalized, have had a long slow recovery with chronic fatigue, non-specific pain, a variety of symptoms, and difficulty with attention and focus. In addition, a small number who have suffered MIS (Multi-system Inflammatory Syndrome) have an even longer medical course and recovery. Helping families cope with these disorders involves guidance, case management and consultation with schools for successful outcomes.

Program Objectives:

At the completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

1. At the end of this presentation, participants will recognize the impact of the pandemic social disruptions on child mental health and education achievement.

2. At the end of this presentation, participants will have the ability to develop a treatment and management plan for a child who has long covid with anxiety and attention concerns.
