Multiculturally Competent Supervision

The presentation is focused upon the provision of multiculturally competent supervision and is grounded in current research regarding this (considering both the identities of the supervisor and supervisee, as well as models of multicultural supervision). The presentation is based on the APA Guidelines for the provision of supervision, which aligns with the APA ethics code. It addresses supervisors and supervisees of multiple diverse identities and how these interact to impact the supervisory process.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Participants will learn foundational definitions related to multicultural supervision and multicultural competence
  • Participants will become familiar with the relevant research regarding multicultural supervision
  • Participants will engage in small group practice at the end of the training to practice applying the skills and knowledge acquired as part of the presentation

About the Presenter:

Katie Bekkeli is a licensed clinical psychologist and diplomate in counseling psychology. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Indiana State University, though she currently is the Associate Director for Training at the University of Delaware’s Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD). She has been providing supervision and training for almost 10 years, and has received specialized training in the provision of supervision over that time. She is an approved clinical supervisor as well.
